I signed up for a trial class - what should we bring?

Dancers should wear athletic clothing and are welcome to take class in socks or barefoot if they do not already have shoes. Dancers are welcome to bring a spill-proof water bottle.

How do I know if class is cancelled?

In the case of bad weather, the decision to cancel classes will be made by 2 PM.

Notifications will be sent to all classes scheduled for that evening via email and Studio Chat. A cancellation notice will also be posted in the First City Dance Families Facebook Group.

What shoes should my dancer wear?

Different classes require different shoes, and some Foundation courses may have dancers switch shoes.

Barefoot: Creative Movement, Dance with Me, Little Acrobats, and Contemporary. Tap Shoes: KinderCombo, Foundations of Dance, and Tap. Jazz Shoes: Acrobatics and Jazz levels. Ballet Shoes: Foundations of Ballet and all Ballet levels.

We have a limited quantity of tap shoes that dancers may try on and keep if they continue their tap course.

Where should I buy leotards, tights, or shoes?

We carry everything your dancer could need! Different apparel is available for purchase through the Parent Portal.

We have sample sizes for shoes and leotards available at the studio for dancers to try before ordering. We also shade-match our tights and jazz shoes to best match a dancers skin tone.

We have a limited quantity of free dancewear available - for more information ask an instructor.

How does placement work for class levels?

Placement for class levels is primarily based on age (minimum age for class levels must be met by August 31, 2024). Some classes may require previous experience or skills, please check the Parent Portal or class description for this information.

Instructors have final say on correct placement for each student.

My dancer missed a class - can we make up in a different class?

Yes! Dancers are encouraged to make up any missed classes.

If you need help selecting an appropriate make-up class, a link will be included in the “Missed Class” email.

What is included in my monthly tuition?

Instead of including additional recital/costume fees at the end of the year, our payment structure is divided into eight monthly installments.

Rates are all inclusive including: recital costumes, t-shirts, photos, and 2 recital tickets per family. Students joining late will have the option to make a one time payment to get caught up on included items or spread the missed amount over the remaining installments
